When I published my first blog post in February 2016, it very much began as a creative outlet. An outlet away from a world that couldn’t have been more different, but an outlet that I so desperately craved nonetheless. At the time, I didn’t expect anyone to read Planes & Champagne, let alone garner a following of regular readers. I even hesitated about whether to publish anything at all. What if my colleagues found out or worse still what if I was fired?! The phrase ‘banker to blogger’ didn’t really sit well but I knew I was being ridiculous. So I persevered with my dream and succeeded in keeping my blog under the radar for almost a year, before quitting the world of private banking and embarking on the exciting journey of a fempreneur. When I found out six weeks ago that I was shortlisted for ‘Travel Blogger of The Year’ at The Blogosphere Blog Awards 2017, it was a pretty special feeling. Correction, it was an AMAZING feeling! Fast forward to last Thursday evening and here I was pulling up to Iris Studios in Kensington, otherwise know as Blogosphere HQ for the 2017 Blogosphere Blog Awards.
What I Wore
It was Kate Spade to the rescue with my pink ‘Roset’ Woven Fit-and-Flare dress. I picked this up in New York last year after seeing Hollywood Actress Bella Thorne rock it on the red carpet and well…I just couldn’t resist!
I paired my dress with my favourite rhinestone choker necklace from Zara which I bought three years ago now but it’s a trusted favourite and my go-to for adding glitz and glamour to any outfit. The Duchess of Cambridge has been spotted wearing it a number of times too….I like to think she saw me wear it first and approved 😆.
My shoes which are silver and gold strappies are from Mango and my black studded evening bag was an Yves Saint Laurent purchase. I also had additional arm candy in the form of Mr O’T 🙂.
After strutting our stuff down the red carpet and posing for a few photographs, we made our way inside but not before insta-gramming the life out of this gorgeous pink and cream faux flower mural. This proved to be a massive hit with pretty much everyone and reminded me a little of the floral mural that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West had at their wedding in Florence three years ago. I would love to recreate this wall in my office at home so watch this space!
The ceremony was held on the ground floor of Blogosphere HQ which for one night only, was transformed, into a chic and intimate ceremony space which actually reminded me a little of a wedding. There were four rather long tables and goody bags were lined up alongside each place setting. There weren’t any name cards assigned to guests, so it was very much a case of first come first served in terms of the seating arrangements.
Despite the doors opening at 6pm, the actual ceremony didn’t commence until around 7:15pm which worked rather well as it was absolutely stifling inside. The sun had well and truly cast a spell over London that day and the lack of air con made for a rather hot experience!
Alice Audley, the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Blogosphere presented the awards. Events like this normally go one of two ways – at lightening speed or lengthy and drawn out. On this occasion, it was the former which meant that we didn’t have to wait too long to find out the winner of each category.
The gorgeous ladies from Twins That Travel, Claire & Laura, won the award for ‘Travel Bloggers of The Year’ and it couldn’t have been more deserved! I met them for the first time shortly before the ceremony and hand on heart, they are two of the nicest ladies you could ever wish to meet and so incredibly humble and down to earth. They have an amazing blog and I can’t wait to continue following their incredible adventures.
The Blogosphere Blog Awards was a great opportunity to catch up with new and existing blogger friends. I met the gorgeous Eppie for the first time, Kara from Heels in my Backpack, Reena from The Lifestyle Enthusiast and I caught up with Angie from Silverspoon London who updated me on her fabulous trip to Santorini which she’d just returned from.

To you my lovely readers – firstly thank you for taking the time to read and/or comment on my blog because it really does make my heart flutter every time I login to WordPress. I also want to say a massive thank you to everyone who nominated me, it really does mean the world! I may not have danced my way home with a trophy but I still feel like a winner for being shortlisted in Blogosphere’s Top 5 Travel Bloggers so thank you so much!
