Ngapali Beach – A Hidden Gem in Myanmar

If I could give you one recommendation from my 2017 travels so far, it would be to visit Myanmar. Rich in culture and drowning in history, Myanmar is the most fascinating country I have ever visited and one which remains very much untouched. If you’re heading over to Myanmar, then here are 5 reasons why you should add Ngapali beach to your travel itinerary.

Ngapali Beach

The Seafood

One of the best things about Ngapali beach is the seafood. Located on the west coast of Myanmar overlooking the the Bay of Bengal, Ngapali could not be more perfectly located for seafood lovers.

Everything served at the beach bars and restaurants is caught fresh the very same day but the best part is the price. A feast of popcorn shrimp, fresh salad, grilled jumbo prawns and local fish curry for two including drinks will set you back approximately £10.

Ngapali Beach

If dining al fresco with the sand between your toes for next to nothing isn’t foodie heaven then I don’t know what is!

Ngapali Beach

Wherever you are in the world, you can’t beat a good sunset. Ngapali beach and Myanmar in general, is one country that really knows how to showcase a jaw dropping sunset. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a local or two on their way home from work.

If I were to give you one tip and one tip only, it would be to head to one of the beach front bars half an hour before the sunsets and take advantage of the happy hour cocktails. Sunsets really don’t get much more perfect that this.

The Beach

It may not be The Maldives but the white sand and clear waters of Ngapali are as pristine as beaches go. Other than a handful of beachfront bars and restaurants, there is next to no one around which is perfect if you want to go incognito.

The People

The people of Ngapali are some of the warmest people you will ever meet. They are friendly locals doing their best to make a living and they don’t harass you. Life is simple here and free from materialism, a great reminder to us all to appreciate the small things in life such as sipping coconuts on the beach.

Tourism hasn’t fully taken hold in this part of the world yet so Ngapali beach doesn’t have a large number of hotels to choose from. That being said, it does offer accommodation to suit all budgets and at a reasonable price.

Mr O’T and I enjoyed beachside luxury at The Hilton which you can read all about here.

Ngapali beach

Ngapali beach is a beautiful part of the world. If you love the simple things in life and are happy to take a detox from life as we know it, then please do visit this area if you ever find yourself in Myanmar. I’m sure it will look very different in the future once the world takes note.

Have you visited Ngapali beach before or another area in Myanmar before? If so, what was your experience?
