One of my favourite self care routines is booking in for a blow dry. I’ll take blowdries over haircuts any day of the week. The experience is so much more enjoyable, plus you don’t need to worry about stylists getting over excited with scissors! A few weeks ago, I visited the AER Blowdry Bar in London to experience their Signature “Big and Bouncy” Blowdry with my lovely friend Bec.
The salon is located on Old Brompton Road in Kensington and is just a short walk from South Kensington tube. I love this part of London as you never quite know who you’ll bump into. In fact, two minutes before arriving, we walked past Jaime Lang from Made in Chelsea. It’s a shame we were both on our phones otherwise I would have totally asked for a selfie haha!
If you know your London Blow Dry Bars then you may know that AER won “Best Blow Dry Bar 2016” at The London Hair and Beauty Awards last year. The salon has also featured in high profile publications such as Vogue, Tatler, Hello Magazine and Elle.
I don’t like to judge a book by it’s cover, but I go weak at the knees for interiors and AER Blowdry Bar had me at hello. Or rather “catch a breath of aer”.
After admiring the decor and taking those all important pics, I headed to the back of the salon to have my hair washed. I love getting a salon hair wash as stylists often perform Indian head massages which I find super relaxing.
It was then time to decide what kind of of blow-dry to opt for. One of the many things I love about AER is that there’s no restrictions on blow dries or up-dos. Each stylist will create a bespoke look to suit each client. I asked for big and bouncy as I LOVE hair with a bit of vavavoom. I certainly got that!
In the space of 30 minutes my hair went from limp and drab to voluminous and full of life again which is exactly what I was hoping for.
Blow dries aren’t cheap, but this is London and you’re at an award winning salon. A standard AER blowdry is priced at £35 (for 30 minutes) or £45 if your hair is long or thick (like mine). If you have extra long or extra thick then you’re looking at £60.
